A Synopsis of My Life
(pg. 2) While I attended
high school, I wanted to become a part of the school's environment so,
during my study periods, I volunteered in the library. Since then I have
done volunteer jobs in libraries of various settings, such as Cook Library
at Towson State University and the library at The Baltimore Museum of Art.
During one volunteer job, I established the library at the Hearing and
Speech Agency of Metro Baltimore. For the number of hours I volunteered in
the library of the Community College of Baltimore, I was given a gift of
thanks--a key to the college. I found working in a library setting a place
where you do not have to work under much pressure.
The counselors at Western High School
encouraged me to go to college. For one year I went to a small four year
liberal arts college in upper New York state. This proved to be another
challenge for me as I had to live on campus. For the first time in my
life, I was on my own. I learned to fend for myself. It was my
determination and will power that helped me through this difficult period.
I decided, after two semesters being away from home, to continue my
education at the Community College of Baltimore where I received my
Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts.
I went on to Towson State University to
obtain my Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science degrees in
Instructional Technology. Along with my BS degree, I was accorded an award
for distinguished achievement. While pursuing my Masters, I wrote a
research paper titled " Challenges for the Cerebral Palsy Adult" and
created a software program for a hearing impaired child who was having
difficulty in writing in complete compound sentences.
To broaden my world further, my parents took
me traveling. There is not a better way to learn about the world around
you than to travel in other states and countries. I have been to
two-thirds of this country, including Alaska. I have also been to Europe
and Scandinavia.
In spite of my disability, I have enjoyed
bicycling, swimming, and horseback riding. An adult tri-wheeler was used
for bicycling. I have entered horse shows and won ribbons for my
horsemanship. Working with my hands has not been a problem. Handicrafts,
such as needlepoint and latch hook, have been therapeutic.
